Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 20 Women’s team will be looking to make a winning start against Honduras when both countries meet in their opening fixture of the CONCACAF Final round of qualification at the Truman Bodden Sports  Complex in the Cayman Islands from 6pm on Friday.

T&T are coming off a training camp in Fort Lauderdale under head coach Izler Browne and are optimistic about a good start against Honduras which is making their debut at the CONCACAF Final stage. T&T meantime have been to the final round on five occasions but have never advanced past the group phase.

The Soca Princesses will be looking to the services of team captain Anique Walker who has scored four goals in the campaign so far  and was a member of the T&T Under 17 team at the 2010 FIFA Under !7 Women’s World Cup. Their hopes will also rest on fellow goalscorers from the Caribbean qualifying round such as Patrice Campbell, Khadidra Debesette (5 goals); Shanisa Camejo, Jonelle Warrick (3); Shenelle Henry (2); Danielle Findley, Naomie Guerra and Samantha McSween (1).

“I think we are ready for the challenge ahead. The girls have put in the work. We had a decent camp in Fort Lauderdale and it’s just about transferring that onto the field of play in the first  game against Honduras,” Browne said.

“We’ve been waiting on this moment for some time now since the Caribbean qualifying round ended last year and I expect that the girls will do their best as they go in search of a positive result in this opening match.

T&T will take on hosts Cayman Islands on January 12th and Mexico two days later.Defending champion United States – seeded into Group A – kicks off against Central American foe Costa Rica.  Jamaica and Guatemala were scheduled to kick off the tournament on Thursday.

The two groups of four teams will participate in round-robin play over the competition’s first six match days.

The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals on Friday, January 17.  The semifinal winners will contest the final, as well as qualify directly for the U-20 Women’s World Cup.  The winner of the third-place match also earns a coveted ticket to the event.
