Marabella Family Crisis Centre was crowned champions of the Southern Football Association Petrotrin Premier Division Super League “Big-Six” crown after battling to a 1-1 draw in their final round against title hopefuls, Barrackpore United FC at Barrackpore on Saturday.

Barrackpore, playing before its home crowd entered the match on a high, having defeated Moruga FC 2-1 ihe League Cup final three days earlier at the same venue, and needed a victory to take the Premier Division title.

However, Marabella which started the day ahead of its opponent on goal-difference with both teams on ten points, only needed to avoid defeat and drew first blood as early as the eight minute through Yohance Alexander.

That lead lasted until the half-hour mark before Keion La Rode got Barrackpore back in the contest and a goal away from its second title inside a week.

But try and they did both teams failed to find the back of the net for remaining 60 minutes of the match, and in the end Marabella was the one celebrating its maiden SFA league triumph.

With the point earned, Marabella and Barrackpore both ended with 11 from five matches, but Marabella won due to a superior goal-difference of plus-ten to the the host plus-five.

Marabella, also now joins Cunupia FC (Central Football Association), Sidey’s (Tobago Football Association) and Police FC (Northern Football Association) as qualifiers to the T&T Football Association “Champion of Champions” competition, which serves as a qualifier to the National Super League.

The remaining teams for the “CoC” competition will come from the Eastern Football Association (EFA) and the Eastern Counties Football Union (ECFU) which will be determined next month.
