Former W Connection quartet of Aaron Downing, Quami Knights, Teba Mc Knight and Devon Drayton were all among the goals as Caroni Samba crushed Cap Off Youths 5-0 to stay ahead in Central Football Association Premier League on Sunday.
Downing got a double in the 25th and 43rd minute while Knights netted on the stroke of half-time for a 3-0 lead at Jerry Junction, Waterloo. Eight minutes into the second-half, Teba Mc Knight made it 4-0 before Drayton, who also played for the now defunct United Petrotrin completed the scoring in the 67th minute.
The win for Caroni, its third in five matches improved its points tally to ten, one ahead of Edingburgh 500, which whipped Leeds FC 4-1 after trailing early on at Edingburgh on Saturday.
Menelik Elcock fired Leeds into a fifth minute lead but Jamal Sobers led Edingburgh fightback with a double, in the 25th and 72nd minutes while Atiba Alves (54th) and Tavrean Sobers (62nd) also found the back of the net.
Joint third-placed clubs, Harlem Strikers and St Mary’s United got contrasting victories to be two points off the top. Former Guyanese international Carey Harris banged in a double (36th, 56th) and Phillip Wickham, the other for Strikers in their 3-0 shut-out of Perseverance Ball Runners while St Mary’s won by default from Strugglers FC.
In the two other matches, Kevon Edwards (61st, 80th) and Andy Garcia (76th, 78th) scored a pair of goals each for KC Perseverance in its 6-2 thrashing of Flamengo FC at Perseverance Ground, Couva while Highlanders edegd Las Lomas United 3-2 inspired by Jabari Raphael’s hat-trick, the last of which was in the 89th minute.
