19-Dec-2002 - National defender, Ian Gray, was named CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh’s “Most Valuable Player” for 2002 at the club’s annual prize-giving ceremony and end-of-year dinner at the Cascadia Hotel, St Ann’s, on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old Gray, who made his international debut last month in the FC Gold Cup qualifiers hosted here, played a pivotal role in helping the club clinch its first T&T Pro League title which ultimately earned him this acclaim. He also won the “Most Improved Player” Trophy.
Kerry Norray, another recent national senior team debutante, and Cornell Glen, shared the “Most Goals” Trophy for scoring 12 goals apiece, while Norray was later named “Young Professional of the Year.”
Mid-fielder Trent Noel, in his first season at the club, was the “Most Disciplined Player.”
Top-scorer in this year’s Secondary Schools Football League with 33 goals, Jerol Forbes, was the club’s Under-19 “MVP” and top-scorer.
In the Under-16 category, Cleavon Noel scored the “Most Goals” as Jabloteh won both the league and FA titles and Sheldon Sayers won the “MVP” Trophy.
Julia Britto top-scored for Jabloteh’s top seven-placing Premier Division netball team, while Samantha James, who was absent from the proceedings, was the outfit’s “MVP.”
National technical director, Hannibal Najjar, briefly addressed the gathering, asking the younger footballers to try their best to preserve their lives and to act responsibility.
“This year was the first time that our club became the Champion Team of T&T by winning the Pro League in November. This was indeed a momentous occasion for us,” said Jerry Hospedales, the club’s president.
“We provide the best possible experience for our young players, not only in the areas of football, but in everyday life.
“We encourage team-work, fair play and sportsmanship in the hope that when these youngsters leave the game they would go away with happy memories, good soccer skills and the tools needed for success and personal fulfillment in their lives,” he added.
