The Barton College Bulldogs snapped an eight-game losing streak by defeating the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds 4-3 this afternoon in Wilson, North Carolina. UDC drew first blood when freshman forward Akeil Belfon (Brooklyn, NY) was fouled and junior Kendel Penny (Gasparillo, Trinidad) scored on the resulting penalty kick at 9:06 into the match.
Barton scored their first goal when Kieran McGurk took a pass from Chris Tripp and sent the ball into the far left of the net at 30:27. Tripp scored the second Barton goal at 63:56 with an assist from Fernando Guzman. UDC’s Olivier Guswende (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso) scored their second goal 67:41 into the match with an assist from freshman Kevin Santos (Sterling, Virginia).

Tripp then scored his second goal of the match at 69:43 on a pass from Matthew Arnold. At 55:27, Arnold, with an assist from McGurk, scored the final goal for Barton. The final UDC goal was actually scored by Barton as they tried to clear the ball and accidentally hit it into the net at 77:38 into the match.

Firebird junior keeper Isiah Munoz (Grafton, OH) had four saves, while Bulldog keeper Brian Reisenberg collected six.   UDC, now 3-9-2, will end its regular season on November 1 in Murfreesboro, North Carolina against Chowan College.
