The University of South Florida men's soccer team hit the road tonight for the first time this season to face Florida Gulf Coast University, and in doing so, looked to knock some of the rust off after a tough season opening win against UCF on Tuesday night.
USF (2-0-0), however, ranked No. 11 (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) and No. 18 (Soccer America) respectively in the preseason national rankings, found themselves in another dog-fight tonight en route to a hard fought 1-0 win over the Eagles in Fort Myers.

In what was a defensive struggle, with FGCU (1-1-0) outshooting the Bulls 10-8, Javed Mohammed scored his first goal of the year in the 87th minute to give the Bulls its second straight one-goal win of the year.

The Eagles tested USF goalkeeper Jeff Attinella early getting their first shot off in the fifth minute going just high of the goal.

The Bulls would not get their first shot of the game until the 17th minute when Zak Boggs put one of his three shots on the night on goal.

Boggs' shot would be the first of only two shots in the initial 45 minutes of action for USF, with the second not coming until the 40th minute by Felipe Libreros.

FGCU would record just five shots in the first half as the team's entered the break in a scoreless tie.

In the second half, the Bulls would seem to turn things around offensively getting six shots off on the Eagles.

USF would get the only break it would need after a foul on FGCU. Mohammed would take the free kick at the top right corner of the box and bent a shot to the left of the defensive wall and into the top left corner of the goal for what would eventually be the game winner. The shot would the only one of the night for the native of LaRomaine, Trinidad.

Although the Eagles outshot the Bulls 10-8 on the night, five of USF's shots were on goal.

Between the pipes for the Bulls, Attinella made saves on all five shots on goal.

USF returns home to the USF Soccer Stadium on Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. to battle Valparaiso.
