Incarnate Word senior Troy Thompson gave UIW two goals for a 2-1 comeback against Heartland Conference foe St. Edward’s University this past weekend and was named the Heartland Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Thompson’s goals are the first and second of the year for the team and for himself – UIW having defeated Midwestern State (then ranked #5 in the nation) 1-0 on an own-goal and playing Rollins College (a team that hasn’t surrendered a goal all year and recently defeated No. 21-ranked West Texas A&M 2-0) to a 0-0 tie this past weekend.

The award for Thompson comes at the same time that UIW moves up in the NSCAA/adidas Division II National Rankings to the No. 9 spot. Incarnate Word was previous ranked 14th in the country after downing Midwestern State.

The Cardinals’ next opponents also are ranked in the Top 25 teams in the country. On Friday, UIW will take on No. 13-ranked Colorado School of Mines (4-0) in a neutral site-contest played at St. Edward’s University at 2:30 p.m.  Then, on Sunday, the Cardinals will face No. 4-ranked Fort Lewis of Colorado (3-0) at SEU at 11 a.m.
