The 14th-ranked Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team defeated Mesa State College by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the CSM Soccer Stadium. It was the ninth shutout win of the season for Mines.

Mesa State attempted seven shots in the first half of play while CSM tallied just three. However, one of Mines’ three shots found its way into the back of the net in the 44th minute of the match. Chike Sullivan eluded multiple MSC defenders and with enough time was able to hit a shot from 20 yards out on the left side of the box far post for the goal. The goal was Sullivan’s fifth of the season.

CSM increased its lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute of the match. Sullivan found Cale Haas in the box and Haas chipped the ball over the top of the MSC goalkeeper for this sixth goal of the season. Mines added one more goal when Haas played a ball right in front of the MSC goal and a Maverick defender attempting to clear the ball kicked it into his own goal in the 82nd minute.

Manville Strand recorded his seventh shutout of the season in goal and made three saves.

The Orediggers (11-2-3, 7-2-1 RMAC) will play at UC-Colorado Springs on Friday, Oct. 23rd at 7:30 pm. CSM will host CSU-Pueblo at the CSM Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 25th at noon.
