The St. John Fisher College men’s soccer team put a halt to the Wells College Express, fighting to a 3-2 win despite the pouring rain at Growney Stadium this evening.

The Cardinals jumped to a quick lead when William Salter took a chip on the right side from Connor Julien to put it in past the goalie from 30 yards out 24:20 into play.

Looking to take a two goal lead into the locker room, Fisher’s Stefan John scored his third goal of the season with 7:45 left in the first half and the Cardinals did just that.

Although Fisher dominated the field in the first half, the Express came out firing in the second, making the playing field a little more even.

A penalty kick awarded to Matt Guinto resulted in a three-goal lead for the Cardinals, and Guinto’s first goal in his senior campaign.

Wells retaliated quickly, answering with a goal from Delroy Roberts, his eighth of the season.

After a nearly complete line change on the Cardinals end, Wells saw another open opportunity, cutting their deficit to only one goal with 57 seconds left on the clock.

Fisher, now 2-7-2 overall, returns to action when it hosts RIT in Empire 8 play on Friday. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
