The Newman men's soccer picked up its first-ever win over Texas-Permian Basin, and did so in dominating fashion with a 4-1 win over the Falcons Friday night at Wilkins Field. Will Peppard was credited with assists on three of Neman's four goals.

Newman (3-8, 2-3 Heartland) made its first move just before the half-way point of the opening frame. That's when a Marshall Johnston throw-in found Chris Vaughn, who forwarded the pass to Matt McConnell for the game's opening goal.

Vaughn took things into his own hands in the final seconds of the opening frame, sending a free kick from Will Peppard past UTPB (1-11, 1-3 Heartland) keeper Chris Benavides and into the back of the goal to give Newman a 2-0 halftime lead.

Newman wasn't finished in the second half. Renato Ramlochan pushed Newman's lead to 3-0 just three minutes into the final frame, heading a Peppard pass past Benavides from close range for a 49th-minute goal. Peppard completed his hat trick of assists in the 69th minute, when he fed Johnston for a short-range header that saw Newman's lead increase to a season-high four goals.

The Falcons put themselves on the board in the 80th minute when a long pass from Ulises Guillen found Raul Lopez, who sent a shot past Newman keeper James Esquivel, who relieved starter Robin Allard with 13:32 to play to set up the final 4-1 margin.

Each Newman goal scorer recorded their second goal of the season as the Jets won their third game of the season. As a team, the Jets out-shot the Falcons 16-11. Both Newman keepers finished with just one save in the contest.

With the win, Newman improves to 3-8 on the season, and 2-3 in Heartland Conference play. The Jets will return to action Sunday, hosting No. 2 Midwestern State in a 1 p.m. contest at Wilkins Field.
