The University of Pikeville men's soccer team pitched its first shutout of the season Tuesday night, blanking Kentucky Christian University 5-0.

The win was UPike's second in a row after opening the season with three losses.

The Bears picked up the win with 14 shots on goal, holding the Knights to only four.

Freshman Bryan Perez played a role in both first-half goals for UPike. His centering pass led freshman Atiba Baptiste perfectly for the first score, coming with 26:49 to play. He followed it with his own goal off a pass from Pedro Moran at 16:42 to make it 2-0.

The Bears had seven shots on goal in the first half and allowed the Knights only two in building their lead.

The Bears stretched the lead to 3-0 at the 32:56 mark when Moran scored on a goal off the keeper. Sophomore Ozzie Ruiz added the next goal on a penalty kick with 26:58 remaining.

Baptiste capped scoring with a shot from the right side in the 70th minute.

UPike will be back in action on Friday night, taking on Mid-South Conference rival Georgetown College at 6 p.m.
