RICKY Shakes was thrilled to bag a collector’s item against the Silkmen as the left peg thumped home his second goal of the campaign.
The youngster is now after a hat-trick of sorts so look out for an aerial challenge at London Road tomorrow night.
Shakes pounced in the final moments of the first half against Macclesfield and gave Town the psychological advantage going into the break.
Goals with his left foot don’t come along too often and he was delighted.
He said: “Scoring towards the end of the first half gives th crowd a lift and the boys a lift.
“I think Lee Peacock flicked it on, I took a gamble and swung with my left foot.
“I was practising in training on Friday, coming in and shooting with my left foot.
“I was quite delighted to score.
“The manager’s always told me to try and get in on the back stick. That’s what I’ve done and it’s paid off.”
And having netted the opener, Shakes very nearly added a second moments later.
He flicked the ball past a defender and brought a fine stop from Macclesfield goalkeeper Tommy Lee, Christian Roberts failing to turn in the loose ball.
Shakes said: “I had the confidence from scoring, did the little flick but credit to the keeper he’s pulled off a tremendous save.
“It was a bit scrappy in the first half but we managed to settle down and play football in the second half.
“Phil Smith made a wonderful save at the start of the second half and we needed that second goal to kill them off. Fortunately we got it.”
So what’s next for scoring Shakes?
He said: “My first goal of the season was a right foot shot against Barnet, I’ve now scored with my left foot so now I’m just waiting for a header!”
Shakes is enjoying life back in the starting line up and wants to keep progressing.
He said: “I am happy. I had a little spell when I was out of the team but I’ve played the last four or five matches.
“We are on a good run of results and we need to keep going.”
