W Connection, last year’s third place finisher in the Under-17 division of the Oasis Youth Pro League, ended the successful title winning campaign in the now U-18 division, with a 3-0 default win over a struggling San Juan Jabloteh, on Saturday.

The team ended the season on top of the said division by 35 points, five higher than nearest challenger North East Stars. Connection, which also took the U-13 and U-15 divisions last year currently sits top of the latter table (32 points,) but does not have its destiny in its own hands, as one match remains outstanding between St Ann’s Rangers (29 points,) which can still take the title and T&TEC (17 points).

It would have won the league outright with a win against Jabloteh. However, after Matthew Woo Ling opened the scoring for the “Savonnetta Boys” in the 25th minute, W Connection led the lead slip in the second half as regular scorer Akeem Garcia levelled the match to 1-1, for a result which would stand at the end.

Rangers and T&TEC will play its outstanding matches this weekend, with the champion of the U-16 to be determined. Despite finishing dead last in the U-18 table, having to play many of its younger players for the division, Jabloteh concluded its dominant showing in the U-14 division, by taking the final by five points.

On the final day of competition, Jabloteh edged W Connection 4-3 in a thriller. Both teams took turns in the lead during the match, but a late winner from Yevan Rajpaul sealed an impressive finish to the season.
