St Ann's Rangers stretched their unbeaten run to seven games yesterday evening as they defeated Tobago United 2-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, in Malabar.
The result lifted Rangers to fifth spot although Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA, who are two points behind, may have surpassed them when they faced Clico San Juan Jabloteh last night.

Earlier this season, Rangers coach Anthony Streete was left dazed after being struck--inadvertently--by a bottle tossed in frustration by a Rangers supporter, as the club struggled to get into gear.

They should be queuing up to buy Streete drinks now.

There was little champagne football on the field as neither team seemed able to rouse themselves in the rainy conditions. But Rangers were never likely to be caught after Jerome Charles put them ahead with a blistering 25-metre drive in the 48th minute.

Tobago threatened to conjure a late equaliser when a low left side cross from Carey Harris just missed an unmarked George Dublin at the far post.

But Rangers captain Errol McFarlane, in his first game back after a stint in Lebanon, promptly provided an insurance item after being teed up by teammate Josimar Belgrave in the 87th minute.

It meant lucky seven for the in-form St Ann's soldiers.

Atiba McKnight fired in the winner as W Connection beat Joe Public 1-0 to leapfrog into third place in the TT Pro League yesterday at the Marvin Lee Stadium. Mc Knight scored in the 19th minute after a good build-up and despite creating several chances throughout the game, W Connection could not add to the tally. Joe Public nearly made them pay for it when a Keyeno Thomas header rebounded off the bar at the death.

W Connection eventually held on for the win for their second consecutive 1-0 victory over the “Eastern Lions”. W Connection are now third in the standings with 19 points from 11 matches.

United Petrotrin held on to second place in the league with a 1-1 draw with Defence Force at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Kevon Woodley gave the “Oilmen” the lead with a goal just before the half (43rd minute) but the Army- Coast Guard combination forward, Devon Jorsling pulled one back in the 70th for a share of the points. Meanwhile, St Ann’s Rangers shut out Tobago United 2-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium to continue their slow but steady progress in the league. Jerome Charles opened the scoring in the 47th minute and veteran striker Errol Mc Farlane secured the win with a cool finish in the 85th.
