FOUR DAYS before departure to a World Cup qualifying tournament, the Ministry of Sport has informed the men’s Under-20 national football team that it will not fund the trip to Jamaica for the CONCACAF Championship due to run from January 9-24.

Trinidad and Tobago's Men's Under 20 footballers continued their preparations for the upcoming CONCACAF Final Round of World Cup Qualification with a 5-1 victory over a Caledonia AIA outfit in a training match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday.

The national under-20 football team was forced to scrap its December tour to Mexico due to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association’s (TTFA) inability to raise the $780,000 needed to fund to trip.

Trinidad and Tobago’s final squad for the CONCACAF Final Round of World Cup Qualification was finalized by head coach Derek King and the technical staff on Friday as the team prepares to head off to Miami for a training camp on New Year’s Day.

Mexico camp called off

Barring a last minute miracle, the proposed training camp to Mexico for T&T’s Under-20 footballers ahead of next month’s Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Jamaica has been called off.

Trinidad and Tobago men’s national Under 20 team will depart for a training camp in Miami on January 1 for the final leg of preparations ahead of the CONCACAF final round of World Cup Qualification in Jamaica.

Following on from the recent financial problems faced by the national senior men and women’s Soca Warriors, this country’s Under-20 footballers face a wait and see approach today with regards to a planned training camp and warm-up matches in Mexico.
