Kerry Daniel and Anton Joseph scored a goal each as Back Street blanked Carenage United for its second straight win in Group B of the  Santa Cruz Super Cup Football League at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Sam Boucaud, Lower Santa Cruz on Thursday.

However, Carenage had only itself to blame for not coming away with a point at least after winger, Akil Glasgow had a penalty saved by Back Street goalkeeper Triston Charles midway through the first-half before Daniel slammed home a close-ranged volley off a Devon Jorsling feed while Joseph rifled home a left-footed free-kick past Marvin Phillip.

A week earlier, Soca Warriors striker Jorsling netted a beaver-trick to lead Back Street to a 6-3 mauling of Santa Cruz Touring Team. Daniel and Josimar Belgrave added one each for the Back Street, last year’s tournament runner-up while ex-St Lucian captain Earl Jean, former T&T international Arnold Dwarika and Curtis Boatswain got a goal each for Santa Cruz in the loss, its first in three matches.

In Group A, Neil Simpson netted a double to lead Valencia past defending champion, Police 5-4. Matthew Williams, Calvin Lopez and Kendes Garcia chipped in with one apiece for Valencia while Christopher Sam got two and S Edwards and an own goal for the lawmen.

The top two teams in each of the four groups at the end round-robin series will qualify for the knockout stage. The winner of this year’s tournament hosted by the Santa Cruz Football Organisation will walk away with $20,000 while second gets $10,000, third $5,000 and fourth, $3,000.

Last year Police won the title beating Back Street in the final. The sponsors Turpin’s Transport, Beckles Environmental, Monteco Creations, Villa Cruz Bar, Merry Boys Recreational Bar, Baya’s Bar, The Liquor Centre and Valley Bar.
