The SIS Industrial Football League 2015 kicked off with a bang at Plipdeco Grounds in the heart of the Point Lisas Industrial Estate recently.

This year’s tournament showcases no fewer than 12 giants in the Industry. The opening day saw simultaneous games being played, both started at 5 pm.

Game one saw PCS Nitrogen up against IPSL (MX). Both teams proved to be evenly matched and although it was an exciting game with end to end action, after the two twenty-minute halves, no team was able to score, the game ending in a goal-less draw.

In the other simultaneous fixture, sporting giants Wasa matched up against the enthusiastic YARA outfit.

This match proved the highlight of the opening day and the scoreline reflected as such.

The game started at pace with the plucky YARA creating numerous chances and Wasa countering at every turn.

Wasa was shocked when the creative Jeron Quashie struck a bullet from some distance to beat the hapless David John in goal for Wasa.

YARA early lead made Wasa step up their game considerably and just on the stroke of half time found the equaliser from the boot of Newel Redhead.

The second half saw both teams coming at each other with guns blazing, a strike from close to the corner from YARA’S Quashi saw the wasa custodian make an initial save and then inexplicitly somehow managed to drop the ball into his own goal to the delight of the YARA team.

With the scores reading 2-1 in favor of YARA and the game appear heading for a surprise upset.

However, Wasa made relentless raids on YARA’s goal and was rewarded through another brillant strike from Redhead, and now Wasa was flowing in high gear, and with minutes remaining midfielder Renaldo William won the game, to seal a dramatic come from behind victory.
