Former national striker Cyrano Glen scored a first half brace last evening to see newly promoted Malabar FC into second spot in the blink/bmobile National Super League, as the EFA champion leadpfrogged over Guaya United with a 2-1 win.

The home team, Guaya, which welcomed Malabar, was left stunned as it suffered its first defeat of the campaign. Malabar, which now has a two point advantage, has played two matches more thus far, and has lost just one. It was not an easy victory for Malabar, despite scoring almost immediately after kickoff.

Glen, the younger brother of current T&T international Cornell Glen, bagged his opening goal in the second minute and then doubled up in the 27th, to see his tally rise to six goals for the season.

Guaya, the second most solid team in defence this season pulled one back with three minutes left in the half, courtesy of a Russell Alfred strike, but it was the last goal of the match, as Malabar, a team with ambition of playing in the TT Pro League, secured its sixth straight win.

Meanwhile, at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, Club Sando left its unbeaten record intact with a 1-0 win over Real Maracas. The league leader got the victory through a Coneal Thomas goal in the 41st minute.

Simultaneously, 2011 treble crown winner Joe Public suffered its third defeat of the season and dropped into sixth place, following a 2-1 loss at home to Westside Superstarz. Qian Grosvenor grabbed his seventh goal (tied for second in top scorers list) of the season with a 39th minute winner.

Next Sunday, all teams will be in action with the exception of Malabar FC, which is on a bye.
