Tevin Balfour got the loan goal as visiting Defence Force edged Bethel United in their  National Super League Premier Division encounter at Mt Gomery Ground on Sunday to extend its lead at the top of the table.

After a 0-0 first-half, Balfor conjured up the game’s decisive item in the 76th minute to silence the home crowd and push his team to 15 points from six matches at the end of Round Six, four more than newcomers, Marabella Family Crisis Centre and 1976 Phoenix, who battled to a 0-0 draw at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. However, Phoenix has a match in hand.

The quartet of Police FC, Guaya United, WASA FC and Petrotrin Palo Seco are next with ten points each. This after WASA kept defending champions Club Sando Moruga winless with a 2-0 blanking at St Joseph courtesy goals from Fabian Garcia in the eighth minute and Keron Clarke, in the 24th.

At Guaya Recreation Ground, Guaya United outplayed Stokely Vale 4-2 with a goal each from Jody Alsop, Carlon Hughes and Ryan Stewart along with an own goal from the visitors. In the two other matches played, Jesse Edwards scored a pair for Siparia Spurs in a 3-2 defeat of Matura Reunited at Petrotrin Ground, Fyzabad while National Lotteries Control Board La Horquetta S.A and FC Santa Rosa battled to a 1-1 draw.

Thursday, Seventh Round matches take place with Defence Force, 1976 FC Phoenix, Police FC, Guaya United, WASA FC and Petrotrin Palo Seco all schedule to be in action.

Defence Force stay ahead of pack

DEFENCE FORCE stayed ahead of the chasing pack in the National Super League following a narrow 1-0 win over Bethel United in a Match Day Six contest on Sunday.

At the Montgomery Recreation Ground, the visitors got a 76th minute goal from Tevin Balfour to register their fifth win in six matches. 

Marabella Family Crisis Center and 1976 FC Phoenix both moved up a spot to second and third respectively, after both teams played to a goalless draw at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella. 

Police slipped to fourth as they were inactive on the day - their scheduled meeting against Real Maracas was rescheduled to a date to be announced. 

Guaya United moved up one notch to fifth after spanking Stokely Vale 4-2 at the Guayaguayare Recreation Ground. Guaya had a comfortable 3-0 lead with Jody Allsop (second), own goal (fifth) and Carlon Hughes (47th) on target, but Travis Winchester pulled one back on the hour mark for Stokely Vale. 

Veteran midfielder Ryan Stewart restored Guaya’s three-goal lead in the 67th before Leshawn Roberts netted Stokely Vale’s second in the 80th. 

Reigning champs Club Sando Moruga’s struggles continued when they fell to a 2-0 loss to WASA at the WASA Ground in St Joseph, with Fabian Garcia (eighth) and Keron Clarke (22nd) getting their names on the scoresheet. Siparia Spurs climbed from ninth to eighth following a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Matura Re United at the Petrotrin Ground in Fyzabad. 

Jesse Edwards broke the deadlock for Siparia in the first minute but Matura responded with a pair from Irvin Reyes, in the 35th and 37th. 

Daniel Diaz evened up the scores in the 62nd and Edwards netted the winner, in the 86th. 

In the day’s other contest, NLCB La Horquetta SA and FC Santa Rosa played to a 1-1 draw at the UTT Ground in Centeno. 

Jean-Paul Aqui-Blanc gave Santa Rosa a second minute lead but La Horquetta got back on even terms with an own goal in the 81st. 

Match Day Seven action will be contested on Thursday.
