LEO BEENHAKKER wants David Nakhid to make himself available for selection for the remainder of the 2006 Germany World Cup Concacaf qualifiers.


The Dutchman said so at Piarco International Airport yesterday, when he introduced assistant coaches, fellow Dutchmen Theo De Jonk and Whim Rhizerburg,on arrival from a two-week tour of Europe looking at overseas T&T players.

“My role for David is open at the moment and when he returns to T&T next week, he will decide on what he wants to do,”Beenhakker said.

Nakhid, 41, made his return to the national team in February,in the Caribbean Football Union Digicel Cup Finals, under coach Bertille St Clair,who has been replaced by Beenhakker.

He also made an appearance in T&T’s Concacaf World Cup qualifier against Guatemala, which the Warriors lost 5-1.

Asked about the role Russell Latapy will play,the Dutchman said he was uncertain.

“I have two coaches here with me and we will be starting work from Monday, so I need people who can be on board now.

“Those committed to the cause of the team should not now be making up their minds,” Beenhakker said.

A former Holland and Real Madrid coach, Beenhakker will begin training sessions with the Warriors at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Monday.

T&T faces Panama at home on June 4, followed by away matches to Mexico (June 8) and USA in the six-nation 2006 Germany World Cup Concacaf qualifiers.

Beenhakker will also be in charge of the local squad for the 2005 Concacaf Gold Cup to be played in the USA from July 6 - 24.

T&T will compete in Group A, with Honduras, Colombia and Panama.Group B comprises Costa Rica, USA, Canada and Cuba.

South Africa, Guatemala, Mexico and Jamaica are the teams in Group C.
