N’Kosi Salandy scored a pair of goals to lead St Anthony’s College to a comfortable 4-1 whipping of arch-rival St Mary’s College and jumps to top spot on goal difference in the 2016 Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Premier Division, yesterday.

The “Westmooring Tigers” took the lead in the 16th minute when a shot by Shem Clauzel, the son of former national player Ian “Dread Dribbler” Clauzel, took a wicked deflection off St Mary’s defender Nathaniel Williams and into his own net, but St Mary’s was soon back on level terms in the 20th thanks to Tyrese Spicer in the Serpentine Road, St Clair encounter.

St Mary’s joy was shortlived, though, as Salandy restored St Anthony’s lead at 2-1 a few minutes which it took into the interval, and two minutes into the second-half, he completed his double and extended the advantage to 3-1 while Haile Beckles added a fourth item three minutes from the final whistle.

With the win, the “Westmoorings Tigers” remained the lone team with a 100 per cent winning record —three wins from as many matches for maximum nine points, the same tally as Shiva Boys Hindu College and Presentation College of San Fernando, but with a superior goal-difference and the lead on the 15-team table

Down at David Williams Recreation Ground, Penal, Shiva Boys got goals from Yohannes Richardson in the 32nd and Tyrell Baptiste in the 70th to blank former table-toppers Trinity College of Moka 2-0.

At Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, Nathaniel Dyer (61st) and Jordan Riley (87th penalty) netted second-half items for Presentation College of San Fernando in a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Signal Hill which led through a 30th minute Akeem Benjamin strike.

The trio of defending champions, Naparima College Fyzabad Secondary, and San Juan North Secondary all won to move into four-way tie with Trinity College of Moka on seven points each.

At Fatima College Ground, Mucurapo, Isaiah Lee scored the first hat-trick of the SSFL season to lead Naparima past Fatima 3-1; Alleric Williams (31st & 41st) and Ken Bhola (87th & 90th) netted two goals each for Fyzabad in a 4-2 entertaining win over Pleasantville at Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin, and San Juan North edged East Mucurapo 2-1 at Bourg Mulatresse, San Juan

And in the second match at Mahaica Oval,cellar-place St Benedict’s College, coached by former national striker Leonson Lewis picked up its first point in a 0-0 draw with St Augustine Secondary. Matches continue on Wednesday.
