Two goals by Daniel Joseph and another from Kareem Paul kept St Augustine Senior Comprehensive in the hunt for the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League East Zone title as they secured a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Hillview College at the Marvin Lee Stadium yesterday.

The Green Machine took charge from the very first minute with Anthony Moses and Paul almost putting their team ahead. Moses, coming down the right side, launched a shot that Hillview's goal keeper Ameer Mohammed could only deflect to the feet of Paul. But the keeper came up with a diving effort to stop Paul.

St Augustine had many opportunities to score and finally did so in the 20th minute when Joseph ran across the Hillview backline and unleashed a fierce shot. Mohammed denied him once again but Paul made no mistake with the rebound.

Two minutes later, St Augustine could have made it 2-0 after Paul made a sizzling run through the midfield only to meet an advancing Mohammed who forced him to put his shot wide.

That was the tale of the match, with Mohammed foiling almost all St Augustine's attempts on goal, until late in the second half.

St Augustine stepped up their game but Hillview, and more so Mohammed, did the same.

Hillview searched for the equaliser and looked very dangerous on every attempt while Mohammed kept things tight at the back but he alone could not stave off defeat as Joseph got his revenge.

After being denied twice in the first half, Joseph broke through Hillview's defence, hitting the back of the net in the 60th to put St Augustine 2-0 up.

Paul was denied two golden opportunities as Mohammed put on a superb goalkeeping display but all his hard work was in vain as a hand-ball in the penalty area in the 90th minute gave St Augustine a penalty kick that Joseph easily converted to put the game out of reach.
