Presentation College Chaguanas became double-crown champions for the third consecutive year in the Secondary Schools Football League Central Zone.
Yesterday, Presentation added the RBTT zonal Intercol title to the league trophy, which they won earlier this season, when they defeated Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive 2-0 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
Both goals were scored very early in the first half of play through Trent Lougheed and skipper Kevon Lalloo.
But the Pres victory was aided by a Carapichaima team that failed to capitalise on some very good chances that came their way, particularly in the second half.
From the very first blast of the referee's whistle, Pres looked the more aggressive of the two teams and had the Carps defence under some pressure.
Presentation took the lead in the 12th minute when Lougheed collected a ball inside the 18-metre box and beat keeper Kervon Green with a perfectly-placed left footed shot into the far corner of the net.
The small group of Pres supporters began to celebrate and before their shouts had died down Lalloo sent his team further ahead.
The skilful and talented midfielder raced down the left side and after weaving his way into the penalty area struck a powerful shot that gave Green no chance whatsoever.
In an effort to get themselves back into the game, Carps made two substitutions in the 32nd minute when they brought on Okan Ross and Kevon George for Terrance Sinaswee and Julien Allert, respectively.
But despite those changes, the scoreline remained unchanged at the interval.
Nearing the end of the first session, Carps had two good chances which came in quick succession, but Kerron Smith and Roland Cotton shot wide from very close up.
On the resumption, Carps looked very positive and purposeful as they moved faster to the ball than their opponents and made several inroads into the Pres defence. However, they failed to reduce the lead as a result of several muffed opportunities and some solid defensive work from the Pres quartet of Reon Pegus, Anslem Allert, Anthony Goddard and Adi Pollard.
Goalkeeper Anthony County also had a good game for Pres with some brilliant saves. The most spectacular was an acrobatic effort against a power-packed shot by Julien Landeau from close range which County stopped from getting into the net.
Longstanding Pres coach Glenford Thomas was elated over his team's success but was full of praise for the Carapichaima squad.
"I feel very good at this time. This was a very competitive game and it showed that Carapichaima had a lot of fight in them. They squandered some good chances but I must say that this game showed that there is quality football in the Central Zone," stated Thomas.
