Bethel United opened a one-point lead at the top of the 12-team Tobago Football Association Premier Division after edging 1976 Phoenix 2-1 in the first match of a double-header at Canaan ground, Bon Accord, on Tuesday.

Vernon Wilson and Nicholas Baldwin scored a goal each for Bethel to cancel out Dominique Roberts’ strike for Phoenix and carry their team to 29 points from 13 matches, one ahead of Mason Hall USSS, which picked up three points via a 4-1 hammering of Stokely Vale at Plymouth Recreation Ground.
 
Stefan Wright led the way for Mason Hall with a treble and Kevorn Adams chipped in the other while Chad Sandy got a consolation item for Stokely Vale.
 
In the two other matches played, Lambeau and Sidey’s played to a 0-0 draw at Canaan while Leeds and cellar-placed defending champion, St Clair Coaching School drew 1-1 at Plymouth.
 
Matches will resume on Saturday with a double-header at Goodwood, from 5 pm. In the opener, Goal City plays Youths Stars followed by Georgia against third-placed Roxborough Lakers, which can reclaim top spot with a victory.
