National women’s footballer Tamar Watson is one of many persons to benefit from The Val Turton Carl Osbourne Foundation (VTCOF). On May 19, the foundation held its sixth annual Charity Golf tournament to raise funds to provide financial assistance to sportsmen and sportswomen to pursue tertiary education.

The foundation has assisted 35 students over the past 10 years to attend university and college. Following the draw and a brief opening ceremony, the tournament teed off promptly at 10 am at the Petrotrin Pointe-a-Pierre Golf Course with teams of two taking part.

At the end of the tournament, Swran Maharaj and Rasheek Khan who were sponsored by Energy Solutions Group, finished ahead of the other 27 teams. The Southern Sales and Service sponsored team of Wanju Lee and H. Mohammed finished in second position.

Some of the other sponsors that contributed to this worthy cause were Atlantic, N.A.P.S, Petrotrin and Active General Traders. The VTCOF foundation was very thankful to all the sponsors and persons who made the tournament a huge success.

On June 29 the foundation will host a Dinner and Award function where six more bursaries will be awarded, with each student receiving a $6,000 grant.

Two students from Presentation College Chaguanas and Naparima College will be given bursaries, while two students from the top two girl schools in the secondary school football league will also be given grants. Val Turton and Carl Osbourne, the foundation creators, attended Presentation and Naps respectively.  Two students from each school will be given grants as a tribute to Turton and Osbourne.
