XTRA FOODS Chaguanas FC advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the Central Football Association (CFA)/Chaguanas Borough Hugo Francis Memorial Cup on Thursday.
The quarterfinal matches took place last weekend (August 17 and 18), with 2012 knockout winners Cunupia FC and runners-up Perseverance Ball Runners earning byes from the first round.
Teams are vying for the winner-takes-all jackpot of $4,000 and the 2013 Hugo Francis Memorial Cup, and all games are being staged at the Hugo Francis Recreation Ground, Woodford Lodge, Chaguanas.
On Thursday, Chaguanas FC whipped Fire Services 3-1, with strikes from Deon O’Garro (61st minute), Dale Navarro (71st) and Juan Ribeiro (82nd). Emilio Smith gave Fire Services the lead, after 36 minutes. Also on the day, Eagles United earned a 3-0 default victory over Flamengo FC.
