FORMER Trinidad and Tobago youth team striker Gary Griffith III scored a pair as Real West Fort United trounced cellar-placed Moruga FC 5-0 at the Police Barracks, St James on Sunday, in a Round 15 encounter of the Ascension Invitational Football Tournament. Griffith III, who was a member of the T&T men’s team during their ill-fated 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, scored a penalty in the 26th minute, and a close-range shot in the 88th.

Jezneel Duntin’s scored an own goal after 22 minutes, and there were strikes from veteran striker Josimar Belgrave (36th) and Kordell Samuel (53rd).

On Friday, Terminix La Horquetta Rangers moved one step closer towards clinching the 2022 crown with a narrow 1-0 victory over Police, in the second of back-to-back matches at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground, Arima.

Former T&T winger Tyrone Charles slotted home a pass from T&T Under-20 attacker Real Gill, in the 82nd minute, to secure their 13th victory from 15 games.

In the earlier fixture at La Horquetta, mid-table outfit AC Port of Spain defeated Deportivo Point Fortin 2-1.

Duane Muckette (35th) and Josiah Wilson (43rd) were on target for AC Port of Spain. Shackiel Henry pulled one back for Point Fortin, in the 72nd. With Police slipping up on Friday, Defence Force moved back to second spot with a 5-0 hammering on Central Soccer World, in the second of back-to-back matches on Saturday, at the Arima Velodrome.

Kathon St Hillaire notched a pair (48th and 65th) while Justin Sadoo (50th), Jelani Felix (54th) and Brent Sam (62nd) chipped in with one apiece.

Cunupia FC, who have struggled in the absence of their marksman and captain Kevon “Showtime” Woodley, fell to a 3-1 defeat to Central FC, in the first game on Saturday.

Getting their names on the scoresheet for Central FC were Keasean St Rose (18th), Leonardo Da Costa (22nd) and Romario Burke (45th), with Hakeem Legall (54th) responding for Cunupia.
