Akeil BelfonKendall PennyFreshman forward Akeil Belfon (Brooklyn, NY) scored two goals to lead the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds to a 5-1 defeat of the Chowan College Hawks, today, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina to close out the 2008 season.  Belfon’s first goal came in the 12th minute after taking a cross from senior mid-fielder Olivier Guswende and sending the ball into the far corner of the net. The Firebirds ended the season at 4-9-2, while the Hawks concluded their season winless with a record of 0-20-0.

The second UDC goal was scored at 17:30 into the match by sophomore defender Nersa Looky-Djobo (Lome, Togo) on a corner kick from junior mid-fielder Kendel Penny. Belfon booted in his second goal of the afternoon, and his 8th of the season, in the 41st minute, unassisted. A Hawk error gave UDC their 4th goal in the 57th minute when they accidentally kicked it into the Firebird goal while defending. Goal five for UDC came in the 56th minute of the match when Kendel Penny took a pass from Belfon and sent it into the back of the net.

UDC Junior goalkeeper Isiah Munoz (Grafton, OH) made seven saves during the match, while Josh Cenci collected 9 for Chowan. The Firebirds outshot the Hawks 24 to 9.
