The 16th-ranked Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half to post a 4-2 win over CSU-Pueblo on Sunday afternoon at the CSM Soccer Stadium.

CSM took advantage of the physical play as Chike Sullivan converted a penalty kick in the 11th minute of the match. The goal was Sullivan’s seventh of the season and third off a penalty kick (3-of-3).

Erik Andersen tied the game in the 17th minute of the match scoring from the left side just inside the box as Corey Cullen tallied the assist.

Philip Wilson gave Mines a 2-1 lead in the 19th minute off a corner kick. Masaki Hemmi drove the ball far post to Trevor Braun who headed the ball down to Wilson’s feet. Both Hemmi (5th assist) and Braun (1st assist) tallied assists on the goal.

CSU-Pueblo tied the game once again in the 49th minute of the match. Andersen notched his second goal of the match courtesy of a Robert Kinsey assist.

Jeff Nelson scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 51st minute as Ted Decker found Nelson just outside the six-yard box on the right side. The goal was Nelson’s 11th of the season and Decker’s assist was his fourth.

Mines added one more goal when Alex Gunberg intercepted a pass from the CSU-Pueblo defense and played a through ball to Nic Amedo for his first goal of the season in the 85th minute. Gunberg tallied his first assist on the goal.

The Orediggers (13-2-3, 9-2-1 RMAC) will play at #25 Metro State on Friday, Oct. 30th at 3:30 pm. CSM will close out the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 1st against Regis University at 2:30 pm.
