Freshman Jevaughn Vance scored a goal and had an assist and Keavin Faith added two assists as the Wayland Baptist men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season, 4-3, over Dallas Christian College on Monday afternoon.

Another newcomer, junior Saman Hassan, as well as returning lettermen Aaron Kurtz and Trevor Baier also picked up goals for the Pioneers. Faith, who is also a freshman, picked up the lone assist on the goals by Vance and Baier, while freshman Momadou Samon aided on Kurtz's first goal of the season.

Head coach Jamath Shoffner was pleased with the effort his team put out in extremely hot and humid conditions, but he also emphasized that the execution still needs to get better.

"A win is a win, but we have to continue to get better. We had 22 shots and probably eight one-on-ones with the goalkeeper. We have to continue to push ourselves if we want to maximize our potential."

After three straight road games, the WBU men are returning home for three straight at Hilliard Field beginning this Saturday with a 7 p.m. contest against the University of the Southwest. Northwood University comes to Plainview on Monday, Sept. 5, and then the Pioneers will welcome Southwestern Christian University on Friday, Sept. 9.
