GEMS stayed in the hunt for the Churches Football League triple crown when they whipped West End Pentecostal 2-0 last Saturday in the first leg of the knockout quarter-final competition.

GEMS, who retained both the League and Big Four titles this season, got goals from Andy Husbands and Keron Roach as they established a two-goal cushion over West End.

In another knockout quarter-final first leg meeting, Daybreak inflicted a 5-2 trouncing on Greater Malabar Christian Centre.

Micah McClatchie netted a pair for Daybreak, while Kristoff Alfred, Kareem Agard and Elijah Roberts chipped in with one apiece. Michael Phillip responded with a double for Greater Malabar.

Curepe Amen got past Khandahar Open Bible 3-1 in their first leg showdown. Joel Davis, Tyron Carter and Gatsha Patrick were the goal-getters for Curepe while Khandahar benefitted from an own goal by Curepe.

The only first leg game to end up in a tie was the Divine Destiny Eagles-St James Pentecostal battle, which finished 2-2.

Joel Saxon and Kendell Birch found the back of the net for Divine Destiny while Jermaine Jeffers and A Shepard replied for St James.

The quarter-final return legs will be staged today while the semi-finals will take place, also on a home-and-away format, on November 19 and 26.

The final is carded for December 10 at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima.
