CIC into InterCol semis with penalty-kick win
From the neutral's point of view, it's a bit sad to see Presentation College San Fernando's season end via kicks from the penalty spot after a gutsy display against St Mary's College at the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday. But North Zone champions St Mary's now venture into the national RBTT InterCol semi-finals with a 5-3 victory in the spotkick shootout, after the teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of extra-time.
Carapichaima win Central InterCol
Missing a penalty kick can hardly be considered the end of the world. But a crucial injury time spot kick miss by Shalon Maynard meant the end of the 2007 schools football season for Chaguanas Senior Comprehensive, as the lost 2-1 to Central champs Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive in the RBTT InterCol Central Zone final yesterday.
Green Machine roll past El Dorado
The "Green Machine" of St Augustine Secondary Comprehensive rolled into the Larry Gomes Stadium and over El Dorado Secondary Comprehensive to claim the RBTT InterCol East Zone title yesterday. Two second half goals were enough for a 2-1 victory at the Malabar venue after the "Blue Thunder" of El Dorado roared in the first half, to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Naps, Pres in South InterCol final
Naparima College and Presentation College will battle for the RBTT InterCol South Zone title on Friday at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium after winning their semi-finals against St Benedict's College and Siparia Secondary, respectively, at the same venue yesterday. Both teams showed character to overturn deficits in the first half, "Naps" running away with a 4-2 victory thanks to three second half goals, while "Pres" pushed past Siparia after falling behind early on.
Naps clinch South InterCol
It would not be inaccurate to describe the RBTT InterCol South Zone final as the "Thriller in Marabella". It ended 2-1 in favour of Naparima College, but only after a last gasp Andre Quashie item in the final minutes of injury time ended the strong resistance put up by their opponents, Presentation College San Fernando at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium.
Speyside shock league champs
Upsets continued in the 2007 RBTT Intercol when Speyside defeated 2007 Tobago League Champs Mason Hall 5-4 on penalty kicks having been tied 1-1 after regulation and extra time. To say Mason Hall was the favorite in the matchup against Speyside is an understatement.
Saints put the hurt on Malick
St Mary's College showed their "Spartan" spirit and upset Malick Secondary Comprehensive 2-1 after extra-time in a hard-fought RBTT North Zone InterCol Final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday. Using the theme of the Spartans from the movie 300, the Saints, campaigning in the Senior Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) after being relegated last year, were able to defeat their more fancied Championship Division rivals.
'El Do' shocks San Juan; Champs booted out
In the 2007 RBTT Intercol competition, one thing is for certain. There will be a new champion crowned at the end, as defending champs San Juan were spectacularly dumped out of the competition by El Dorado Senior Comprehensive. Jamaal Gay put in a heroic display to engineer yet another major upset in the 2007 RBTT Intercol competition.
