The Tobago Football Association Premier and Zonal competitions finally got on the way last Thursday after a brokered deal was arrived at between the Referees Association and the Tobago Football Association (TFA).

Match Day 1 (July 9) saw its first major upset as Earlbrokes overcame defending champions Georgia 2-1 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium. Kerron Phillips gave Georgia the lead in the 15th minute however Brian Martin (37th) and Brindsley Reid (55th) propelled Earlbrokes to a well-deserved victory. In the first game of the double header Roxborough Lakers was made to fight hard before coming away with a 3-2 victory over newly promoted Mason Hall USSS.

On Sunday, Bethel United and St. Clair's Coaching School played out a goalless draw at Montgomery while there was a similar result at Plymouth between Stokely Vale and Hills United.

Meanwhile, the large crowd that gathered at the Charlotteville Recreation Ground to witness the first two derbies of the season was treated to some exciting football.

Premier division newcomers Federal Northside FC faced neighbours Castara Retreat Goal City in the first game of the double header while Charlotteville Unifiers opposed Sidey's under lights in the later encounter.

Kayode Legall and Kenyon Manswell scored in either half to cancel out Joel Harry strike which saw the match evenly poised at the end of the first half.

Charlotteville Unifiers put last year's struggles behind them as they just avoided relegation.

The team featured a youthful outfit against Sidey's and came away with a deserving 1-0 win with a 35th. minute strike by Klaydon Christmas. Sidey's had Christopher Crosby sent off in the 57th minute of the game.

In the Zonal Division (Western Conference), Black Rock FC scored a narrow 1-0 victory over Carnbee/Mt Pleasant at Plymouth in their first outing but fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Golden Lane at Table Piece two days later. Bethel Uprising blanked Lambeau 2-0 at Signal Hill then held 1976 FC Phoenix to a 1-1 draw two days later at Montgomery.

In their first game, Phoenix were impressive in a 2-0 win against Golden Lane at Canaan while Lambeau gained their first victory, one goal to nil over Signal Hill.

In the Eastern Division, NLCB Mt. Grace United made a winning start in their effort to return to the Premier Division with 3-1 demolition of Mason Hall PYC at Mt Grace last Friday while Youth Stars got the better of Goodwood United by two goals to one.

The league must decide on the match between Calder Hall and Moriah Youth which was scheduled for Dusty Park. Calder Hall claiming late notification, defaulted the game.
