AKEIL James netted a double on Thursday as Cunupia FC defeated Edinburgh 500 2-1 to lift the Ramsingh Sports World FA Cup at the Hugo Francis Recreation Ground, Chaguanas.

The victory gives Cunupia FC their second knockout title of the season after winning the inaugural Hugo Francis Cup earlier.

James got the ball rolling from as early as the seventh minute, pouncing on a long pass from his skipper Dillon Walker before rifling the ball into the back of the net.

He doubled the tally in the 14th minute, dispossessing the Edinburgh right-back before cutting inside and unleashing a shot to the right of the hapless Marlon George between the sticks.

Edinburgh, stunned by James’ early blows, pulled one back in the 19th minute through Atiba Alves whose deflected shot found the back of the net.

In the second half, Edinburgh 500 pressed hard for the equaliser but the Cunupia FC defence remained steadfast to preserve their advantage. Cunupia could have made it 3-1 but a header by Akeil James was ruled offside after it had nestled into the back of the net.

In the earlier match at 5pm, Enterprise Youths FC took the third place prize after beating Las Lomas United 2-1. Mariba Jacob scored a double in the 29th and 56 minutes while Las Lomas United got a consolation goal from Kareem Beckles in the 90th minute.

Qualifying from the Central Football Association for the National FA are Cunupia FC, Edinburgh 500 and Enterprise Youths FC.

Speaking to Newsday yesterday, Cunupia FC coach, Michael De Four, was elated with the result which has seen them push their unbeaten streak to an astonishing 20 games.
