Reuel BrownThe University of Bridgeport men’s soccer team scored three goals off set pieces, as the Purple Knights picked up their fourth straight victory with an exciting 3-2 non-conference home win over the American International College Yellow Jackets on Saturday evening. UB is now 4-1-0 on the season, and AIC falls to 1-4-1.

With the Purple Knights trailing 1-0, sophomore Henrik Karlsson (Vasteras, Sweden) headed home a free kick to the tie the match at 1-1 in the 35th minute.

Bridgeport would find itself down by one goal again when AIC scored in the 39th minute to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Junior Reuel Brown (Arima, Trinidad & Tobago) tied the match at 2-2 when he rocketed home a free kick into the back of net in the 52nd minute.

Brown would figure in the game-winning goal in the 68th minute when he would assist on junior Gilbert Bayonne's (Amityville, NY) tally that put Bridgeport ahead to stay, 3-2. Bayonne’s goal is his team-leading fourth of the 2008 season.

The Purple Knights would dominate the offensive stats on the night, as UB outshoot AIC, 20-10, on the night, but Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Jon Thorpe was outstanding making several spectacular stops among his eight saves.

Bridgeport hits the road for its next match, as the Purple Knights will look to up their winning streak to five at Post University in Waterbury, CT on Saturday, September 20th.
