The College of Charleston Athletic Department has announced that Cole Dawley (Charleston, S.C.) of the volleyball team and men's soccer player Kareem Yearwood (SouSoulands, Tobago) have been named Student-Athletes of the Week for the period ending Nov. 9, 2008.

Dawley earned the honor after leading the Cougars to a pair of Southern Conference victories on the road this past weekend over Davidson (3-1) and Georgia Southern (3-0). The wins improves the Cougars record on the year to 22-6 overall, 15-1 in the SoCon.

Against Davidson, Dawley dished out a match-high 42 assists and added 13 digs to lead the Cougars to victory. The double-double was her 11th of the season, as the sophomore setter also added three blocks and three kills

Against Georgia Southern, Dawley recorded another match-high with 37 assists to lead the way. She also added seven digs and six kills.

The Cougars will return to action this weekend when they host Western Carolina and Appalachian State on Nov. 15 and 16th. The Western Carolina match will be held at The Porter-Gaud School beginning at 2 p.m., while the Appalachian State match will take place at Bishop England High School and will start at 1 p.m.

Yearwood earns this week's honor after he scored the game-winner in Charleston’s 3-2 overtime victory over Appalachian State on Saturday night in the first round of the 2008 Southern Conference Championships. The goal, scored seven minutes and 41 seconds into the first overtime period, punched the Cougars’ ticket to the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament.

The goal was the sixth of the year for Yearwood and was his second game-winner of the season. Also, Yearwood was named to the All-Southern Conference second-team this past week for his efforts during the season.

The Cougars, now 10-9-0 on the year, return to action on Friday, Nov. 14th, when they face-off with the top-seeded Elon Phoenix in the semifinals of the SoCon Men’s Soccer Championships. The match is set to start at 4:30 p.m. and will be played at Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
