Senior midfielder Reuel Brown (Arima, Trinidad & Tobago) scored a pair of goals on Sunday evening to lead the University of Bridgeport to a 2-0 victory over Bentley University on the second day of the Franklin Pierce Labor Day Classic, hosted by Franklin Pierce University, at Sodexo Field.

With the win, Bridgeport improves to 2-0-1, while Bentley falls to 2-2-0 with the loss. Bridgeport finished 1-0-1 at the Franklin Pierce Labor Day Classic, while Bentley lost both its games on the weekend.

Bentley nearly broke the ice in the sixth minute when senior forward Jared Joaquin found himself with space in the penalty area on the right side. However, his shot whistled just over the top of the cage.

Instead, Bridgeport would open the scoring in 26th minute when senior midfielder Habib Sylla (Conakry, Guinea) took a feed from midfield and flicked it behind the defense into the box. Brown ran it down, had only the keeper to beat and tucked the ball inside the right post to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead. Bridgeport held an 11-4 edge in shots heading into the halftime intermission.

Bridgeport effectively put the game away with an 87th minute goal which doubled the lead to 2-0. Brown took a corner kick from the right side, which tipped off a defender on its way towards the net and found its way behind the keeper and into the cage.

Bentley outshot Bridgeport 7-4 in the second half, while Bridgeport held a 15-11 edge for the game. Bentley attempted seven corner kicks to four for Bridgeport.

UB junior goalkeeper Milos Suljagic (Belgrade, Serbia) made two saves to notch his third straight shut out of the season. The Purple Knights had held the opposition without a goal in all 290 minutes of play so far this season.

Bridgeport returns to action with a big regional match at Wilmington (DE) University on Tuesday afternoon.
