Senior Kern Gardiner scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute to give the Richmond men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Campbell on Saturday.

On a counter, Colin Lincoln found Gardiner, who dribbled right past the keeper and knocked it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season and his fifth-career goal.

The Spiders had taken a 1-0 in the 10th minute on a penalty kick by junior Jake Russell. It was Russell's 10th-career goal and the second of this season, but Campbell would tie the game in the 26th minute on a goal by Khalil Johnson.

The game remained tied through the half, but Gardiner gave the Spiders the eventual game winner with 38:30 left in the match.

"It was a good win for us," Richmond head coach Clint Peay said. "I was pleased with the response from the team after our previous match. We now start to prepare for our game against Longwood."

Richmond returns to action next Saturday at Longwood at 7 p.m.
