The No. 23 ranked UC men's soccer team used three goals in the final five minutes to destroy the upset hopes of visiting regional opponent Lock Haven (Pa.), Thursday afternoon at Schoenbaum Stadium.

Lock Haven (5-6-3) took the first lead of the game after a scoreless first half when Martin Pletz managed to bank a shot off the near post and past Golden Eagles goalkeeper Sean Teepen (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills). The goal looked as if it would be enough to seal the upset as the Charleston offense struggled to break past LHU's backline.

Head Coach Chad Duernberger belted from the sidelines asking for more intensity from his entire team and they responded with a late rush of offense sparked by captain Rob Vincent (Liverpool, England / Prescot School).

Charleston knotted the game at 1-1 when Vincent found Harry Machacha (Germiston, South Africa / Tyler J.C.) streaking down the middle of the field. Machacha finished his fourth goal (84:28) of the season by chipping the ball over the Lock Haven keeper who was coming off the back-line to challenge the attack.

Less than two minutes later, the University of Charleston attack continued just as it seemed like extra-time was inevitable. Dion Peters (Trincity, Trinidad / EL Dorado Secondary) found space between two defenders at the top of the 18-yard box to fire a laser into the net (86:12) to hand UC a 2-1 advantage.

Peters then secured the game for the home team and shocked a Lock Haven team that had controlled much of the contest when he snuck past the backline to fire a wide open shot into the goal off a great pass from Dan Walmsley (Manchester, England / Cardinal Newman College).

The win improves the Golden Eagles record to 9-2-1 headed into its next match at regional opponent California (Pa.) on Monday, October 18 at 3:30 pm.
