SHAQUILLE BERTRAND was the lone goal-scorer as Real Footballers edged FC Maloney 1-0 to claim the Open Division as the Maloney Football League staged its Boxing Day Tournament on Monday.

Both teams topped the four-team group, but Real Footballers proved too much to handle in the decider.

Ironically, the two teams squared- off in the group phase, but the game ended in a goalless draw.

Real Footballers later earned a 2-1 win over Dingle Boys and a 3-0 triumph over Trincity Nationals.

In the 13-and-Under category, 16 United needed kicks from the penalty spot to defeat Real Footballers 5-4 after both teams ended 0-0 at the end of full-time.

There were also a trio of individual awards which were presented after the day-long contest.

Nathan Lewis took home the Golden Boots award for the leading goal-scorer while Junior Joseph was named as the Best Goalkeeper and Joshua Thomas the Best Referee.

Among the sponsors for the event were National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB), Neal and Massy Foundation, Petrotrin, Home’s Restaurant Limited, Caribbean Finance, Ansa McAl, Beacon Insurance, Money Gram, Dundonald Holding, EOG Resources and Prestige Holdings.
