Boys Town proved their title credentials on Sunday with a commanding 3-1 win against Take That and Cool It as action heated up in the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League.

The former champions started off brightly with the front trio of captain Irvin Reyes, Kerin Vincent and Marcus Chandol combining with great effect.

Reyes had the first chance of the match, collecting a through pass from Vincent, but firing wide of the target. “Cool It” were looking shaky at the back and Shervon Charles rose highest to meet a right-sided cross from Vincent, but his header was saved. “Cool It” had their first opportunity courtesy Andell Allsop who showed great strength to hold off his marker in the penalty area, but could not place his shot past the Boys Town goalie.

At the other end, though, Boys Town were finding huge gaps and Chandol, down the left, showed great patience to pick out a galloping Vincent with a low cross in the six yard box which he bundled into the net to give his team the lead.

A few minutes later, the “Cool It” defenders seemed to have lost their cool and sight of Vincent who beat the offside trap and lashed the ball into the top left hand corner with aplomb to make it 2-0 at the half.

It was more of the same in the second period with Boys Town dominating their rivals in all departments. Reyes got his reward for an industrious showing, the ball falling to him in the box and he blasted a right-footer in off the right post to end any hope Take That and Cool It had of staging a second half comeback. Substitute Anthony Wolfe gave “Cool It” a lift with a strong performance and even a goal but 3- 0 was too much to overcome for the early league leaders.

Also this week, Spartan picked up two wins to move in contention for a spot in the “Big 8”. A 5-2 result over Blu Magic was followed up by a battling 2-1 win against Quash Trace that sees Spartan rise to ninth in the standings. A double from Fitzroy Wolfe was enough to better Keon Williams’ goal for Quash Trace. Manzan United was another big leaper on the table, moving to eighth with a 1-0 win against Spartan and a victory by default over Santos.

In other results, Dream Team and Coca All-Stars played to a 1-1 draw; Gremio thumped Cosmos All-Stars 5-0; G Madrid slammed Hill Toppers 4-0; G Madrid and Xpress drew 1-1.

Also, Coca All-Stars were awarded the three points in a disciplinary ruling for a match against Cosmos All-Stars.
