Masons FC claimed the title in a highly competitive Under-9 category at Saturdays’s San Fernando Football Academy’s 19th Youth Football Tournament at Skinner Park, San Fernando, when it defeated Fyzabad United 6-0 in the final.

The category saw action among some of the top football organisations in the southland, such as Masons FC, Fyzadad United FC, San Fernando Sports Academy, Princess Town Sports Academy and Ralph Coaching School, among others.

The Fyzabad boys claimed the runner-up prize by virtue of contesting the final while San Fernando Football Academy took third.

The tournament, sponsored by the Citizen Security Programme, parents of San Fernando Sports Academy and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, also saw Ralph Coaching taking the under-7 division with Fyzabad United Second again settling for the runner-up spot. The host team took third.

Among the U-11 Arima team Pinto FC produced an outstanding display to secure the title, despite challenges from the host academy which produced two teams, an A and B team, as well as Barney Elite Soccer School, Maguay United, FC Santa Rosa and 1-2-3 Goodness. However the Pinto boys copped the title from the penalty route, beating FC Santa Rosa inthe final.

San Fernando Football Academy claimed the bronze medal for finishing third for yet another time.

The San Fernando club which is coached and managed by Preston Nanan also claimed bronze in the under-13 division, which Maguay United won ahead of FC Santo Rosa.

Meanwhile defending champions Crown Trace successfully retained their title in the under-15 category, defeating the home team in the final. That division comprised competition from Crown Trace, Fyzabad United, Club Sando White, Club Sando Orange, 1-2-3 Goodness, Ralph Coaching school, Maguaya United Princess Town Sports Academy, Mason FC and San Fernando Sports Academy.

The U-5 footballers on the otherhand were made to play a series of friendly matches among themselves featuring the home team, Fyzabad United and Ralph coaching School. The San Fernando academy is claiming success for the way the tournament was conducted and its achievements on the field which adds to the overall success of the team since its inception, winning the Community Sports Programme and Community Group Award at the Spirit of Sports Award that was put on by the Ministry of Sports.

The Academy also won the COSTAATT business Idea Award, and claimed titles in 15 tournaments in nine years.

They will next take the field for action on August 8 and later at the Disney Pre Season Soccer Tournament in Orlando Florida in August.

They will conclude action for the year when they compete on November 18 at Skinner Park.
