A hat-trick from Nicaya Mahon helped seal an emphatic 7-0 win for Eagles United over QPCC in the National Youth League yesterday.

The match played at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, opened the league for both sides in the under-15 division. Reece Maida opened the scoring within 15th minute before Mahon netted his first just a minute later.

The Eagles United team from Enterprise, Chaguanas, then held the lead at 2-0 up for the rest of the half. Not long after the start of the second half, the onslaught ensued with David Maloney (also playing with the Eagles in the under-17 division) scoring on the 50-minute mark.

Mahon scored his second in the 56th, then sealed his hat-trick just one minute later. A double from Akeem James in the 61st and 65th minute completed the rout for Eagles.

Defending champions of the under-15s, 1st FC Santa Rosa also opened their season, taking all three points against The Harvard Club, 1-2 at the Dibe Recreation Ground, St James.

Santa Rosa netted two early goals in the ninth and 13th minute, coming from Kyle Reyes and Kadeem Ajim, respectively, but were unable to keep a clean sheet after letting in Josh Toussaint’s 52nd minute effort.

In Group B, Joe Public Football Club was held to a 2-2 draw by last year’s second-place finishers Club Sando, while Moruga Football Club went top of the table after defeating Cap Off Youths 2-1.

Cap Off Youths were the better side in the under-13 division when they made easy work of Real Maracas, coming away with a 6-0 win. Mecaheil Alexander was the other hat-trick scorer of the day.
