Team Real Madrid emerged as play-off champions in the North-East Zone of the Guinness Street Football Challenge after defeating Caledonia FC 4-3 on penalty kicks on Saturday. The North Zone segment of the tournament, played at the Lower 6th Avenue Basketball Courts was the largest of the four zonal tournaments already played with 16 teams challenging for the $30,000 grand prize. Unfortunately, other teams hoping to register on time were turned away due to the overwhelming turnout.

After a keenly contested group stage, the finalists Real Madrid advanced from the second spot on six points losing only one game to Akal Madrid. At the quarter final stage, Real edged group C winners LVT 1-0 with a Randy Britto goal to move into the semis which was also narrowly won with a single deciding spot kick.
Much was the same for Caledonia which finished second in Group C behind LVT.

Sherron Joseph netted the  goal in Caledonia’s 1-0 win over God Sent Youths which took the team to the final. The Guinness Street Football Challenge will be heading to Simeon Road Basketball Court in the North-West Zone on Friday and Saturday for the last play-off challenge before the best eight teams of the five zones compete in the final phase at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Sunday.
