The top three positions remained the same, but WASA FC was able to extend its lead at the crown of the blink/bmobile National Super League (NSL) 12-team standings after cruising past bottom placed Biche United 4-1, in Match Day 12 action, yesterday.

The win for WASA was just part of the day’s good news for the “Waterboys”, as they would have  learnt of second-placed bmobile Joe Public’s 1-1 draw with third-placed Westside Superstarz.

At WASA Ground, St Joseph, the winning team was in cruise control throughout the first half of the encounter and was up 1-0 when Stephen Edward scored in the 33rd minute.

However, WASA, which expected a walk-over victory, was set back by an equaliser from Biche’s Maurice Billy in the 63rd minute.

However, Biche, a newly promoted team which has been lacking in defence throughout the season, conceded just three minutes later when WASA’s Kerry Noray scored to regain the lead.

WASA then extended the margin in the 79th and 84th minutes when Jahhan Hernandez and Michael Waldron, respectively, found the back of the net.

WASA’s victory, came simultaneously with Joe Public’s stalemate at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings. In that encounter, Westside found the opener seconds before the first half blew off, via a David Lendor effort.

Joe Public’s replied to make it 1-1 in the 54th minute through its leading scorer in forward Brent Antoine, but no team was subsequently able to break the deadlock as they would have to wait until next Sunday attempt a shot at the top spot once again.

In the two matches played in Tobago, 1976 FC Phoenix defeated Club Sando 1-0, while Stokely Vale and Eagles United finished in a goalless draw.

Defence Force and Siparia Spurs, carded to play in the early 3.30 pm fixture, saw its match postponed. FC Santa Rosa’s late clash with Real Maracas concluded after press time.
