WASA FC surged to a six point lead at the top of the blink/bmobile National Super League as it continued its brilliant form with a 2-0 crucial and potential title-deciding win over Westside Superstarz 2-0, at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, yesterday.

With only two league matches left on its agenda, WASA now looks the clear favourite to lift T&T’s second-tier league trophy, for the second time in its history. The only time WASA won the league was in 2007.

Unlike when it won the first leg match 1-0 with a goal in added time from Jahhan Hernandez, WASA played to a more comfortable victory, yesterday, with Hernandez back on the scoresheet with a item in the 57th minute and Glen Walker who wrapped up the win with a strike in the 65th minute.

Both WASA and Westside were off massive wins against TT Pro League opposition at the preliminary stage in the Toyota Classic, on Friday. WASA dropped St Ann’s Rangers 2-1, while Westside stung the newest addition to the TT Pro League, Central FC, on penalty kicks.

Defending champion bmobile Joe Public, meanwhile, stumbled to its eighth draw of the campaign.

At the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Stokely Vale came from a goal down to hold the title holder 1-1.

Following Ellis Dyett’s opener for Joe Public in the 7th minute, Tobago’s Stokely Vale finally got back into the contest when Travis Winchester scored in the 51st.

Despite the draw, Joe Public remains with a match in hand. However, with the season nearing a conclusion, Joe Public will be hoping for WASA to drop points in order to stand a chance of retaining the crown.

In other results, Siparia Spurs leaded into fourth spot with a 3-0 drubbing of Eagles United, while Club Sando almost certainly assured relegation for Biche United with a 4-0 win. Meanwhile, Dillon Bartholomew scored a late winner for Real Maracas to sink Defence Force 2-1.
