Anthony Parris scored a brace, while the league’s leading goalscorer Teba McKnight rounded up an easy 5-2 victory for Club Sando over Defence Force to see the Southerners advance to the semifinal of the blink/bmobile National Super League (NSL) Knockout competition, yesterday.

Club Sando joins Guaya United in next Sunday’s semifinal.

Guaya secured a 4-1 come-from-behind win over Eastern Lions Joe Public. Both results were not surprising, but what may have raised eyebrows was sixth-placed Westside Superstarz’s 1-0 triumph over the star-studded and third-placed Malabar FC. Westside, which has been battling with financial problems recently enjoyed success courtesy last season’s St Anthony’s College standout Adrian Millette.

The other semifinal spot went to rock-bottom FC Santa Rosa, which took a 4-3 spot-kick win over Real Maracas, following a 1-1 stalemate. Santa Rosa, which won one league match in 12 outings this season, qualified for the quarterfinal a week prior following a 10-9 sudden-death penalty kick win over the league’s fourth placed team, 1976 FC Phoenix.

Both semifinals will be played on Sunday. Club Sando will meet Santa Rosa, while Guaya plays Westside. The final will be held on October 20.
