Photo: Anthony HarrisFormer champion, WASA closed to within two points of leaders T&TEC in the race for the 2010 bmobile National Super League title with a 2-1 victory over struggling Queen’s Park in a re-scheduled match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Training Field, Mucurapo, yesterday.

Marvin Joseph opened the scoring for the “Water Boys” in the 22nd minute and eight minutes later Jahhan Hernandez made it 2-0 as the title chasers threatened to go on a rampage.

But the Parkites managed to put up a better fight in the second-half and pulled a goal back seven minutes from full-time via Dexter Franklyn.

With the win, WASA improved to 35 points from 17 matches, two behind T&TEC which has played two matches less while 1976 Angostura Phoenix is third with 30 points. Matches resume on Sunday with T&TEC, WASA and Phoenix all in action.

Stokley Vale are fourth and climbing the bmobile National Super League standings after making full use of home advantage to come away commanding 3-0 winners over St Francois Nationals on Wednesday at the Plymouth recreation ground, Tobago.

Tyrone Manning (12th) and Darron Williams (41st) saw the Tobago team leading 2-0 at the half, before Eustace Stewart got another goal in the 63rd minute of the second half.

Stokley Vale now have 26 points and are five clear of both Club Sando and M&M Harvard, but trail leaders T&TEC (37 points), WASA (32) and another Tobago team, 1976 Phoenix (30).

In other results, sixth-placed Harvard blew an early two-goal lead and allowed home team Valtrin FC to rally for a 2-2 draw at NUGFW ground, Valsayn.

Christon Freitas (12th) and Eric Charles (14th) scored within two minutes as Harvard led 2-0 at the quarter-hour mark, but late pressure saw Dwight Crichlow grab a 89th minute equaliser, after Nathan Lewis had earlier given the home team a lifeline when scoring in the 68th minute.
