Sheldon “Barber” Taylor scored a double as West Side Stars secured promotion to the bmobile National Super League with a 3-1 win over Real Maracas at Paragon Ground, Queen’s Park Savanna, yesterday. This, in the penultimate round of matches in the six-team T&T Football Federation National Super League Qualifying Tournament. After trailing to a 22nd-minute goal from Real Maracas striker David Lendor at the half, Stars used a six-minute blitz in the second-half to turn the match on its head.

First, Taylor drew his team level in the 71st minute before he added a second a minute later for a 2-1 lead while Akeil Gilbert made it 3-1 in the 77th minute. With the win Stars, winners of the Northern Football Association Premier Division, climbed to a maximum 12 points from four matches, five ahead of Central FA’s Eagles United. Eagles got a second-half brace from Glenwell John to register a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Matura Re-United after trailing 1-0 at the interval at Woodford Lodge Ground, Caroni.

In the other match, Spurs had a similar 3-1 triumph over visiting St Clair Coaching School at Siparia Recreation Ground. Kevin Bascombe (11th pen), Kerwin Baptiste (54th) and Len Mejias (79th) scored for Spurs while Anderson Taylor (80th) got a late consolation for St Clair. The win moved Spurs off the foot of the table and keep its slim promotion hopes alive with one round of matches left on Saturday. Eagles will host Stars, Real Maracas is at home to Spurs and Reunited entertain St Clair, all from 3.30pm.
