Queen’s Royal College and Fyzabad Secondary will meet today in the final of the BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Championship Division Big-Eight at the Hasely Crawford Stadium’s training field, Mucurapo.

Both teams have already been promoted to next season’s Premier Division by virtue of their semifinal wins.

QRC, the North Zone Championship winner, edged Princes Town West 1-0 in the opening semifinal last Friday, before Fyzabad made light work of Trinity College (North Zone) with a 4-1 win in the second fixture.

Tomorrow, perhaps an even more highly-anticipated Big-Eight match will see the two losing semifinalists do battle in the third-place playoff, to determine the third and final team to gain promotion to schools’ football’s top tier league. Princes Town West and Trinity College will face off at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, in the second fixture of a double-header, at 5 pm.

From 3 pm, the Girls’ Big-Four final will kick off between St Augustine Secondary and Scarborough Secondary. St Augustine is the defending Big-Four and National InterCol champion.

On Saturday, the Premier Division Big-Four competition came to a close with Naparima securing the title on goal-difference over St Anthony’s College.

The tournament was played in a round-robin format, with the “Tigers” and “Naps” entering the final round with two wins. Saturday’s title deciding match, which was played at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, resulted in a 2-2 draw, with Naparima claiming the title, having conceded one goal less than St Anthony’s.

Naparima, with its host of national Under-20 and U-17 players, will be seeking a third title in the upcoming InterCol competition. As the top ranked South Zone team from the Premier Division, Naparima will earn a bye into the quarterfinal stage of the zonal competition.
